Family Gathering

Dear Friends and Families,

One of the absolute highlights of our ten-day visit to Hungary was a family gathering at Cousin Klara's "weekend getaway" in the hills south of Budapest. Klara and husband Gabor have a strip of land with a little house, where they can get away from the big city cares of Budapest. For our visit, they arranged a three-generation family gathering, with everyone enjoying the pleasant weather, the authentic open-fire potato stew, a little wine (not much since Hungary has a zero-tolerance policy for drunk driving) and lots of chatting.

We were also treated to a computer-slide-show of Klara & Gabor's latest adventure, a three-week drive to and through Iceland. I was thoroughly impressed with the trip, the pictures and the slide show. If you have a chance, visit their website, where you can see the Iceland tour as well as other excitement (including this weekend family lunch!)

This Sunday lunch will remain a fond memory, with or without the high-tech records -- our or theirs!

John and Marianne

The setting of our picnic or barbeque was very pleasant. It was a neighborhood of strip farms, some as narrow as a few meters.
The tent proved necessary on this sunny day, but, still, it was about perfect temperature.
Marianne and Klara prepared the potatoes. Gabor prepared the fire and the hanging pot. Everything together looked and smelled wonderful
Mostly, we hung around, talking and seeing people we had not visited with in a few years. The "kids" are grown but the rest of us are exactly as we were. That's our story....

Klara & Gabor's Iceland adventure filled the theater. Well, at least five or six of us could squeeze our way in! It was well worth the effort.
