HOUSE DIARIES

July Miscellaneous

July, 2008

Written August 31

Dear Friends and Families,

Summer is nice in Pommersfelden. The weather is, generally, OK. The music concerts come to town. And the fields are full of new crops. I think we write similar little notes each year, but we wouldn't want 2008 to seem any less. Here's our "miscellaneous":

We sometimes find people in front of our house taking pictures. Of course, we are always flattered, but we don't usually interfer or even admit we watch them. But, one day when we drove into our courtyard and saw a family taking a picture, Marianne "chose" to walk near the front, just to be snoopy. That's when she heard the language the vistors were using and decided to ask, in Hugarian, if she could help them with their family picture.

Naturally, they were taken aback at a Pommersfelden villager addressing them in their native langauge. As it turned out, the xxx family also spoke excellent English so even I could join in the discussion. Mom and dad were delivering their daughter Noemi, a skilled floutist, to the annual summer concert series before they continued their German travels to various acedemic symposiea that xxx was part of. We managed to squeeze in a dinner later in the week and also saw Noemi perfrom a couple times. The evening with her as a soloist was most impressive. We hope she and the family return again next year.

The concerts are generally foto-forbidden, but we do get to catch pieces of practice and, on one afternoon session, an entrance fanfare in the courtyard. These truely are wonderful additions to our Pommersfelden summers.

We do enjoy living next to a palace. We attended an evening play called "Jedermann (Everyman)" and it was magical sitting in the courtyard of an 18th Century palace listneing to actors sing and carry on (in German, of course). (Unfortunately for these diaries, it was a no-fotos event.)

Our other favotire for the enighbor yard is just to walk through, sonetimes catching the neighbor kids playing in their yard.

Our other favorite is just walking though the neighboring fields. This time of year everything is green or golden and even the Graf's deer are comfortable - as long as they have a iron gate for protection.

So, that's our July miscellaneous record. On to more specific themes,

John and Marianne.
