HOUSE DIARIES

Evenings at Home

April 11 and 12, 2009

Written April 12

Dear Diary (and Marianne),

With Marianne still hanging around California, I'm on my own to enjoy the night life here in Pommersfelden. But there isn't much.

The closest I can seem to do is to try my hand at evening picture taking. At least this should remind someone that it's a pleasant place to come home to.

Yesterday, I enjoyed a walk around the outside of the palace walls. I never tire of walking through the palace gates, imagining life here over the last three-hundred years.

Today, I paid my one Euro fee and went inside the palace grounds just before sunset.

First, I looked over the wall at our house. While from our side the wall stands one-story high, from the inside it's not much more than shoulder level.
The Weissenstein (White Stone) Palace is a great neighbor. In evening light, it is at its most majestic.
The grounds themselves are also special near sunset, both for lights on trees and for the "wildlife" that calls the park home.

So, that's what passes for night life in Pommersfelden. A quiet palace, a few geese, and time to relax on a weekend. Not bad.

John
