These
abstract pieces begin with a cradle board/wood panel substrate and an
application of joint compound, a plaster-like material. Texture is
created with a variety of bought and found objects. When it is dry,
urethane is applied to seal the joint compound. Then begins a
repetitive process of laying down color, wiping away some of it to
allow the color underneath to peek through, and sealing it with
urethane. This procedure can have up to five or six layers. I enjoy the
development of colors playing off one another and the textures taking
on special nuances with each color application. There is an element of
surprise in the final results because of the somewhat unpredictability
of the process. Sizes: Unframed 10 inches square. ($280) Framed 14 inches ($300). Contact me for more information: MarianneArt@trotter.ws |
