California Engagement

Dear Friends and Families,
While I was in Virginia and North Carolina, working hard, Marianne was out in California checking in with the family. The Big Event was Gabby and Mamal's engagement party, but there were other dinners, a house decoration, and a mother-daughter visit to Cirque du Soleil
While John was touring interesting attractions in VA and NC, I was out in CA visiting family and attending the BIG EVENT: Gabby and Mamal's engagement.

Gabby's Aunt Nancy and Cousin Caerry hosted a beautiful dinner gathering at their home in Woodside on Nov. 8th. Unfortunately John couldn't fly out for it, but Marianne's 87-year-old mom was there, along with 100 other guests.

After all this fun, and after my work in Virginia, the plan was for Marianne and I to meet at Dulles Airport and be together on the flights from there to Germany. First, however, we were treated to an "interview" with two famous turkeys. These were the birds that had just received a pardon from President Bush, thus winning first class tickets to Disneyworld rather than serving as center pieces of the White House Thanksgiving dinner.

So, all is well. Gabby and Mamal are officially engaged, and at least two turkey are free from the White House. I'm tempted to speculate on how many turkeys that leaves there, but that would not be in the joyous seasonal spirit.
