HOUSE DIARIES

Maui

May 22-27 , 2008

Written June 14, 2008

Dear Friends and Families,

OK, I admit that, once again, I have let these diaries pile up and find myself rushing through before my memory goes completely blank. I had a wonderful script for Maui in my mind, but it has faded over the last month -- and time has run out. Consequently, this is primarily a picture-tour.

We arrived with five big bags. Weddings require more changes than a regular Maui vacation.

The wedding venue was the Four Seasons Hotel, a very posh place indeed.
A couple dozen of the wedding party girls enjoyed a snorkel trip, despite the unseasonably cool weather.
While they were diving, Henry and I were driving. We covered one coast of Maui, but didn't have time for the infamous "Road to Hana", a several hour excursion.
Henry and I also took in the annual Festival of Canoes (http//:www.festivalofcanoe.com). It was a fascinating display of boat-building. Note that these oceangoing boats are built in the old style, without metal fasteners.
Some people are put off by the "touristy" nature of Lahaina. However, for me, there was far more positive to the local tourism industry than negative.

No matter that I have failed to tell a word story, our picture memories of Maui remain vivid.

John and Marianne.
