My next building was a farmhouse built in 1711 in Oberzettlitz, near Kulmbach.  It is solid wood construction on the lower living level and half-timbered (fachwerk) above that.  Unusually, the living quarters are all above the ground level, including an elevated passageway to the barn. Placing the animals and farm facilities below the family is a practice more often seen in the steep hills of Austria and Switzerland.
