Spring Break
April 4 through 11, 2004
Dear Friends and Families,
Spring Break is one of the favorite rituals of our European Adventure. From Kyiv, we’d established a pattern of flying to Turkey. Now, from Germany, we are establishing a tradition of driving to France. Last year we saw the battlefields of Verdun and Normandy and several good meal tables along the way. This year, our goal was the Dordogne Valley in the south central part of the country, almost to Bordeaux. Again, it’s an area famous for food, but, I suppose, that’s true of most of France.
We’ll break this trip diary into small pieces. It’s easier for us to write and, we hope, easier for you to browse. I have also put the pictures prominently on the web pages themselves. Frankly, we are not sure folks really want to slog through some of our personal diaries (although everyone is welcome to of course) but pictures seem to be popular.
Here’s the outline:
- Sunday and Monday – The Drive to South-Central France
- Monday through Wednesday - Sarlat
- Thursday and Friday – Beynac
- All week- Other parts of the Dordogne Valley
Take care and worry about diets later.
John and Marianne
PS: Lately, I have been adding a few website links for people interested in even more details of the places we visited. For this trip, I noticed that almost every hotel, restaurant, town, village, cave, etc. had a website! Look for them on the diary pages.
