HOUSE DIARIES

Fremdingen

October 5, 2008

Written November 2

Dear Friends and Families,

Fremdingen is not in anyone's tour book. There's hardly anything there so why did we stop? Fall colors. The intended purpose of our three-day weekend had been to get out and see Fall reds, yellows, and oranges. Unfortunately, the weather had been pretty gray, not unusual for Germany but not the best for Fall pictures.

However, today was sunny and we "needed" some Fall pictures, preferably with a good local background. So, when St. Gallus church appeared to have a nice yard of yellow trees, we stopped.
We snapped a few "typical fall shots" and some less traditional. (While it had been gray, we had joked that we probably didn't need any new pictures at all because we take Fall Color pictures every year and, in the end, who can tell the difference year to year? Nevertheless, these are genuine 2008 vintage.
Having stopped at a church, it's not fair to not take a peak inside. Nice. Bright. Colorful. This 100-year old church seemed positively modern after all the others we'd seen.
The ceilings, created in 1907, were particularly impressive. The colors and the implied stories were soothing. Somehow the sense was exactly what it should be, a view midway between the Middle and Modern Ages.

So went our brief stop in Fremdingen. Nice trees. Nice color. Nice church. Maybe Fremdingen SHOULD be in someone's tour guide!

John and Marianne.
