Dear Friends and Family,
After
a few days of driving here and there, we decided to stay around
"home". It's not like we were leading a hectic life on vacation,
but it seemed time for a bit of a slow(er)down.
For exercise, we took a walk along the Drau River, or more properly,
along the local lake formed by the dammed Drau. The path was much
better than the other direction, which we had tried a couple of days
before. We had a few nice houses to snoop on, but mostly it was a
time for sketching (M) and taking pictures (J).
A highlight for the walk, at least the noisiest event, was a visit to a
pig pen. The little guys were kind of cute, but we were thankful
for a strong fence between the big mom and dad and us.
After the pig pen, I concentrated on trying to make something of a
cloudy day, not the easiest picture-taking atmosphere. First, I
tried a view to the south, over a village, into the mountains.
The "plain" photos were pretty washed out, the effect of the bright
cloudy light. Later, I shifted a few of the shots to "high
dynamic range" (HDR) and, for these scenes the clouds looked much
better. I liked the results. Opinions?
I also tried pictures of the very few flowers or buds that had ventured
out early this year. The best picture turned out to be one of a
"pine blossom". In this case, HDR just made the image a bit
fuzzier and flatter. A lesson learned.

The rest of the day was spent catching up on reading, writing, eating, and a few sips of wine. Not a bad day.
