December 18-20
Written December 18-?
Dear Diary,
Believe
it or not, we are on the road again, only this time it's only for about
30 minutes. We have done the things necessary to settle back into
our house, such as get the heat going, but we still need to do
something to get us into the Christmas spirit.
The city of Nuremberg (or Nurnberg) has one of the largest Christmas
markets in Germany and friends Malinda and Scott had offered their
rented apartment for us to borrow, so the combination made lots of
sense. After some routine doctor visits on Tuesday, we made the
half-hour trip to our "new apartment". It's is a very nice place,
right in the heart of town, ten minutes walk to the big Christmas
Market.
On just the first day, we managed a nice lunch at "Tapasitos", some serious
shopping, walks along the Pegnitz River, and an evening visit to the
market where we had the obligatory sausage sandwich and spiced wine
(gluehwein). Even the 8pm market closing time worked well, since
we are still a bit jet-lagged.
First day pictures (too many, but I need as many reminder-aids as practical!):

Wednesday
was not planned, except for an early morning picture shoot of our
neighboring "waterfall" and a susequent morning stop at Starbucks for
coffee
and Wifi. This was just like normal travel.

Beyond that, we mostly did errands such as the new iPad contract, and
some passport pictures, and a little more shopping. In the
evening we wished a friend well as she and others went out to sing
Christmas carols in old Nuremberg. They gathered in a meeting room in
the Rathaus (Town Hall), where there was a fun display of old Nuermberg's
toy industry products. We didn't sing, but settled for a dinner in
the Rathaus instead. I am much more skilled at eating than
singing.

Tomorrow we will pack up and return to our normal life. We'd like
to thank Malinda and Scott for this excuse to really enjoy our first
Christmas Market of the year.
Regards,
John and Marianne
